The Artemis Story

Since 1971, Artemis Place Society has been providing integrated educational services in the Capital Region. Over the years, the Society has been known as the Victoria Society for Educational Alternatives, Artemis Options Society, and the Girls Alternative Program.

Our programs have traditionally served young women and young parents, and gender-diverse students have been welcomed throughout our history. In 2015–2016, following a thoughtful and inclusive process, the Society formally welcomed trans youth into our programs.

As part of our intentional community, Artemis Place Society is committed to adopting decolonizing practices and engaging with the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Today, the Society operates Artemis Place Secondary School and the Artemis Young Parent Program, which includes an on-site Child Care Centre. Our Secondary School blends academics, counseling, and life skills in a supportive, alternative school setting.

Artemis Place is a safe and nurturing space for youth who have struggled in conventional programs and are seeking an intentional community where they can thrive.

We Value Inclusivity

At Artemis, inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. We believe every student deserves to feel safe, valued, and celebrated for who they are.

2SLGBTQIA+

Artemis is proud to be a space where queer and trans students feel seen and affirmed. With over half of our students identifying as 2SLGBTQIA+, our school culture is built on acceptance and pride.

Neurodivergence

We understand and embrace the many ways brains work. From flexible routines to sensory-friendly spaces, we support students in learning and thriving on their own terms.

Accessible

Education should be available to everyone. We work to remove barriers—physical, emotional, and academic—so all students can engage fully in school life.

Celebrating Diversity

Our community is stronger because of the different cultures, experiences, and identities our students bring. We honor each story and learn from one another every day.

Work With Us

Working at Artemis means being part of a team that values compassion, creativity, and collaboration. Our staff are mentors as much as teachers, walking alongside students as they discover who they are and what they can do. If you’re passionate about making education meaningful for all learners, we’d love to hear from you. No current job postings. Inquire now.

Volunteer with Us

Artemis Place Society welcomes volunteers who want to make a difference in our community. Alumni can stay connected through our Alumni Volunteer Program, sharing their experience and supporting current students. Community volunteers contribute their time and skills to programs, events, and mentoring, helping students thrive. Our Board of Directors also plays a vital volunteer role, guiding the Society’s vision and ensuring our programs meet the needs of the youth we serve.  Contact us to get involved.
